Hailing from the Punjab gharana, Taufiq is the son of the late tabla legend Ustad Alla Rakha, the brother of World Rhythm maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, and a master percussionist in his own right.
With his deep knowledge of the language and technique of traditional Indian percussion (the tabla) and a broad range of contemporary World Music styles, Taufiq Qureshi has developed a language that adapts tabla syllables for performance on the djembe.
